about my art

I paint in acrylic on board with a slightly textured background which adds movement and interest. Trial and error has brought about a self-taught style and my design background de-clutters the landscape into stylised compositions.

I draw my inspiration from the moody landscape and historic architecture that surrounds me. Preferring the cooler months, my stormy paintings depict an atmosphere of changing weather or the transition from light to dark.
Interested in colour and texture of the land, I often include buildings within my pictures to become an integral part of the landscape.

Sometimes, I focus on the buildings and these become characterful portraits, with a strong sense of the past.
My simplified paintings are intended to evoke emotion, rather than to be an actual place, to remind people of places they have visited, days they have experienced, a peace and calm they long for.

I paint my pictures simply to express my love of nature, architecture and heritage. I am always thrilled to bits when someone wants to have one of my paintings hanging on their wall.
